Intended Use

The NeoNatalie Suction is primarily intended for removal of fluids from

nasal and oral cavities of newborns and infants. It is also suitable for more

general use as an irrigating syringe.

Discard the device if it appears to

be damaged.

This device is not suitable for removal

of meconium from lower airways.

Warnings

Note: Failure to disinfect the device properly

increases the risk of spreading disease.

Do not insert the Nozzle more

than 1-2 cm into the baby’s

nostrils, or more than 2-3 cm into

the mouth.

Clean and disinfect the device

before next patient use.

Take care to not spray

contaminants into the air, as this

increases the risk of spreading

disease. This device is not a toy.

Check before Each Use

Note: Always ensure the device is clean and not damaged before use.

Flip the Head onto the Body of the

suction device. Ensure a flush fit

between the Head and Body.

Test vacuum by squeezing the Body.

Block the tip of the Nozzle with a

finger and release the Body squeeze.

The Body should not expand until

the tip is unblocked.

User Instructions

Note: Suction strength depends on the amount the Body is squeezed.

Depending on hand size and technique, peak suction achieved may be

in the range of 50 - 150 mmHg (70-200 cmH

2

O). Practice with a

manometer connected to the Nozzle to improve technique.

Squeeze the sides of the Body.

Keep the Body squeezed.

Extract the Nozzle and squeeze the Body to empty the contents into a water

container, towel or similar.

For repetitive suctioning, keep the Body squeezed until suctioning again.

Insert the Nozzle into the oral

or nasal cavity. Release the Body

squeeze slowly to suction.

countries in effective newborn resuscitation techniques in order to achieve

the UN Millennium Development Goal 4 of reducing infant and child mortality

by 2/3 from 1990 to 2015. Laerdal hopes to contribute to such widespread
