WHAT IS A “NORMAL” TEMPERATURE?:
Temperature readings vary in different individuals. A normal temperature refers to each individual’s
average temperature while they are well. Normal average temperatures range form 97°F/36.1°C to
100°F/37.7°C when taken orally. From an oral temperature, you may calculate a rectal equivalent
temperature by adding 1°F/0.5°C while an underarm temperature requires subtracting 1°F/0.5°C.
For example, if your oral temperature is 98.6°F/ 37°C this is the same as a rectal temperature of
99.6°F/37.5°C or an underarm temperature of 97.6°F/36.5°C.
