General Information
This instrument measures the air-drying
characteristics of paints, varnishes, enamels,
drying oils, lacquers, shellacs, adhesives and
various other types of coatings and fi lms applied
to many types of plane surfaces.
The various stages of drying and curing that occur
in fi lms are very diffi cult to defi ne and evaluate
satisfactorily in a quantitative manner. A study of
all the factors that infl uence the reproducibility of
drying-time data, done chiefl y in the laboratories
of the Advance Division, Carlisle Chemical Works,
Inc., resulted in the circular recorder and template.
