The following safety instructions must be followed when using the appliance. Please read this section
very carefully!
Of course, it’s not possible for us to anticipate or provide safety rules for every specific situation, so
we ask you to apply commonsense precautions when using the appliance in a situation that isn’t
described below.
• This appliance has been designed for household use only, no other (heavy duty) uses are permitted.
• Never use the appliance outdoors.
attention! Never leave the appliance connected to the mains when it is unattended.
Warning! Unplug the appliance from the plug when not in use. Before unplugging the power
cable, switch off the appliance then pull out the power cable from the wall (or extension) socket.
• This device is not supposed to be used by physically or mentally handicapped people, or persons without
experience or knowledge (including children, as well), unless such a person supervises or guides their use of
the device, who is at the same time responsible for their safety. As for children, supervision is recommended
to make sure that they do not play with the device. This device is not supposed to be used by children under
the age of 14, not even with supervision!
• Only use the appliance on a stable, level surface. Keep it away from water and make sure it cannot accidentally
slip or fall. If the appliance comes into contact with any kind of moisture or liquid during use, immediately
unplug it from the mains. Do not touch it or attempt to take it out of the liquid until the mains plug has been
removed from the socket. You must not use the appliance again before having it checked and repaired by a
specialist engineer.
• Water vapour is generated when making coffee. Please bear this in mind when deciding where to use the
coffee maker. It needs to be in an area where air can flow around it freely and should never be used in narrow
or low places, such as the shelves of a fitted kitchen. You should also keep the coffee maker away from direct
sunshine because this can fade or discolour the casing.
Should the appliance fall into any kind of liquid during operation do not grasp it, first disconnect it
from the mains and only remove it from the liquid when the power has been disconnected. Take it to
an authorised service engineer for checking and repair.
Do not touch the appliance with moist hands. Plug the connector of the appliance into the mains with dry
hands only, and check that the casing, power cord and connector of the appliance as well as the mains socket
are dry. Should any moisture get inside the casing of the appliance stop using it immediately and take it to a
specialized service for checking or repair.
• Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
• Certain parts of the appliance (e.g. the coffee pot, water tank lid and hotplate) will become very hot when it is
switched on. Take care to avoid touching them.
• The coffee maker should only be used by adults or with appropriate adult supervision. Make sure the mains
cable doesn’t touch any part of the appliance that becomes hot during use.
• Do not place the appliance near a gas or electric hob or oven, or in a space where there is something above the
appliance (e.g. under a wall-mounted cupboard of a built-in kitchen).
• Please avoid using the appliance in any place where it would be subjected to high temperatures, low
temperatures, physical shocks or vibration. The appliance is designed to be operated and stored in a situation
where temperatures are between +5° and +40° Celsius. Do not use the appliance in a wet or humid
environment.
• After filling the water tank, always close the plastic lid. Never use the appliance without closing the lid and
never open the lid when the appliance is switched on.
• After use and before cleaning, always disconnect the appliance from the mains. Never do this by pulling on the
cable; always take hold of the plug and pull out of the socket. Switch off the appliance before disconnecting it
from the mains.
• Take care when using the glass coffee pot, particularly when filling or cleaning it. Do not put a pot filled with
hot coffee on a wet or cold surface. Do not use the pot if it is cracked, broken or the handle is loose. A damaged
pot should always be replaced; a pot with a loose handle may be repaired by a specialist engineer.
• Never wind the mains cable around the appliance, especially when it is still hot, because the cable could break
or the insulation might be damaged.
• Never lay the mains cable beside or across sharp edges or hot surfaces. Never wrap the mains cable around
the cover of the appliance, do not pull the cable and do not lift the appliance with the mains cable because
the cable can break or the insulation can be damaged. A damaged cable must be replaced by an authorised
service engineer. The appliance must not be used or connected to a wall socket if the cable is damaged.
