When not in use, be sure to rotate the drag start to reduce drag pressure. This step will help
prevent damage to the drag washers during storage.
F. REMOVING THE SIDEPLATE
Ambassadeur reels are equipped with a removable handle sideplate that allows access to the
spool and centrifugal brake system. To open the sideplate, use a phillips head screwdriver to
turn the 3 sideplate screws counterclockwise until completely loosened. Gently pull on the
handle sideplate until it separates from the frame of the reel. The spool and centrifugal braking
system can now be accessed.
G. REEL FUNCTION
How to Adjust the Centrifugal Brake System: Depending on model, most ambassadeur reels
feature a 4 or 6 pin centrifugal brake that maintains consistent brake pressure throughout the cast
when engaged. After removing the handle sideplate, look for the centrifugal brake located on the
spool facing the handle sideplate. To disengage the centrifugal brake system, push each brake
block towards the center of the spool until it “clicks” into place. Any combination of brake
blocks can be engaged or disengaged. To engage, slide the preferred number of brake blocks
away from the center of the spool. Each block will click into position. Once activated, the brake
blocks will be able to freely move up and down the pins.
For maximum casting distance and minimal tendency of line over run, it is necessary to also
adjust the tension knob to match the weight of the lure and angler preference.
How to Adjust the Tension Knob: With the rod-reel-line-lure properly assembled, place the tip
of the thumb on the line to hold the spool. Depending on model, depress the thumb bar or push
button with the pad of your thumb to disengage the gear. Allow the lure to drop to the ground.
If the lure does not fall when the thumb bar is depressed, turn the mechanical brake knob
counterclockwise to reduce tension on the spool. If the lure falls to the ground and the spool
continues to rotate, the mechanical brake is too loose. Adjust accordingly.
- Basic Casting Technique -
a) Depress the thumb bar (or button, if applicable) while keeping the tip of the thumb on the
spool to control the lure. Hold the rod and reel so that that handle is pointing upward.
b) Holding the rod and reel in front of the body, bring the rod backward so the tip reaches a
point above and behind the shoulder. To cast, bring the rod back in front of the body in a single
motion without stopping
