Loosen thumb screw #1. Move collar and sand container to the top of the post.

Loosen thumb screw #2. The box will stay because it's sitting on the bottom
collar.

Loosen thumb screw #3. Slide box up pip until catch container fits under box.
Tighten thumb screw #3.

With the brass gauge #4 on the bottom of the sand tube, loosen thumb screw
#1 and lower until the brass gauge is somewhere close to the sample plate,
approximately 1 inch.
Remove plastic window from the bottom box. With screw #2 loose, the box will
pivot around the post to allow the test sample to be put into place.

Pivot box back in to place, then raise and lower and pivot box until the brass
gauge is centered and just touches the sample. Tighten thumb screw #2

A pivot and stop have been designed into the bottom collar of the sample box
to allow for test repeatability, as long as the same sample thickness is used.

To set the stop, loosen thumb screw #3. Raise collar until it touches collar #3.
Rotate bottom collar (thumb screw toward front of tester), make sure bottom
collar contacts the stop. Tighten thumb screw #3.

Now loosen screw #2, pivot the box to allow removal of the brass gauge from
the sand tube. Then, when the box is pivoted back into place, it will stop with
the sample 1 inch from the bottom of the sand tube as per ASTM specification.
Tighten screw #1, replace window. Conduct test.

To repeat test, remove window, loosen screw #2, pivot box to remove sample
and put in a new one, If samples are the same thickness. Pivot box into place
and conduct the next test. If sample thickness is different, replace the brass
gauge and re-do the setup procedure for the new thickness.
