STARTING AND STOPPING
To Stop Engine / Energize Touch-N-Mow
) Starting System
Touch-N-Mow
starting system is functioning properly when
a mechanical winding/ratcheting sound is heard upon
releasing equipment control handle. This is the sound of the
Touch-N-Mow
starting system energizing for the next start.
Engine must be running to energize Touch-N-Mow
Starting
System.
[1] Release equipment control handle per equipment
manufacturer’s instructions.
[2] ALWAYS lock safety key as shown and remove when
not in use. Turn safety key to LOCK AND REMOVE
position (1/4 turn opposite fuel cap) and remove.
[3] Close fuel shut-off valve (if equipped).
To Start Warm Engine
[1] A warm engine DOES NOT require priming.
[2] Install and turn safety key to RUN position (1/4 turn
toward fuel cap).
[3] Actuate equipment starting controls according to in-
structions in manufacturer’s owner/operating manual.
Note:
If for some reason engine does not start on first attempt using
Touch-N-Mow
starter, you must use rewind starter to re-start
engine. Press engine primer bulb 3 times and start according to
manufacturer’s owner/operating manual.

To Start Cold or Stored Engine
[1] Check oil level (See Oil section).
[2] Press engine primer bulb 3 times.
[3] Install and turn safety key to RUN position (1/4 turn
toward fuel cap).
[4] Actuate equipment starting controls according to in-
structions in manufacturer’s owner/operating manual.
Note:
If for some reason engine does not start on first attempt using
Touch-N-Mow
starter, you must use rewind starter to re-start
engine. Press engine primer bulb 3 times and start according to
manufacturer’s owner/operating manual.
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
♦Check fuel level.
♦Ensure spark plug wire is connected.
♦ReĆenergize the starting system by following the steps outlined
under To Start Engine First Time OR when the TouchĆNĆMow
starter is DeĆEnergized"
♦Remember to actuate equipment starting controls according to
manufacturer's instructions.
♦Ensure safety key is in RUN position.
♦If the safety key does not lock, slightly pull rewind cord; this
releases tension in the starter.
If the mower stops due to dense grass, depleted fuel supply, or mechanical reasons the TouchĆNĆMow starting system will be deĆenergized.
To reĆstart your mower, follow the steps outlined under To Start Engine First Time OR when the TouchĆNĆMow starter is DeĆEnergized".
To De-energize Touch-N-Mow
) Starter
Before servicing, storing, or transporting engine, ensure the
starter is not energized by manually de-energizing it.
Warning: Keep hands and feet away from rotating
parts. The engine will turn over when de-energizing.
[1] Remove spark plug wire from spark plug.
[2] Turn safety key to RUN position (1/4 turn toward fuel
cap).
[3] Actuate equipment starting controls according to in-
structions in manufacturer’s owner/operating manual.
Engine will crank over upon actuating equipment starting
controls, but will not start if spark plug wire was removed from
spark plug as described above. Once engine has stopped
cranking, Touch-N-Mow
starter is de-energized.
[4] Turn safety key to LOCK AND REMOVE position (1/4
turn opposite fuel cap) and remove key. Mower or
engine may now be safely serviced or stored.
