If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction

and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly

used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards

Power Tool Use & Care

a)

Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your

application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at

the rate for which it was designed

b)

Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.

Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous

and must be repaired

c)

Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery

pack from the power tool before making any adjustments,

changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive

safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally

d)

Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do

not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these

instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous

in the hands of untrained users

e)

Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of

moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may

affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power

tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly

maintained power tools

f)

Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting

tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier

to control

g)

Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance

with these instructions, taking into account the working

conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for

operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous

situation

Service

a)

Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using

only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of

the power tool is maintained

Grinding Tool Safety

• Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment. When using a

grinder, safety goggles, ear defenders and dust masks should be worn

• Do not attempt to cut or grind magnesium or any alloy that has high

magnesium content

• Use plain or centre recessed cutting or grinding discs of a size stated

in this instruction manual. Attempting to use any other accessory or

attachment is extremely dangerous and could lead to serious injury

• The maximum speed of the cutting/grinding disc should always be higher

than the maximum speed of the machine to which they will be attached

• Use the correct cutting/grinding disc for the job. Stone/metal-working

discs and cutting/grinding discs are not interchangeable

• Do not allow discs to become wet or oil soaked. If you suspect that a disc

has degraded in storage DO NOT USE

• Inspect cutting/grinding discs before use. If a disc is damaged in any

way (chipped, fractured etc) DO NOT USE. Dispose of disc and replace.

Damaged discs can spontaneously shatter

• Do not attempt to make cuts that exceed the maximum cutting depth

of the disc

• Do not use any form of spacers to make an incorrect disc fit your machine
• Ensure that the cutting/grinding disc is fitted correctly and securely

before use. Run the machine with the disc fitted, but no load, for

30 seconds before attempting to cut/grind. If excessive vibration is

encountered, stop the machine and correct the cause before use

• Never operate a grinder without its guards in place
• Do not stand in line with the cutting/grinding disc when in use
• Do not operate the spindle lock while the grinder is running
• Beware that the machine will ‘run on’ for some time after being switched

off. Allow the machine to stop itself. Do not stop the machine by holding

an object against the disc. NEVER place the grinder down until the disc

has completely stopped

• A grinding disc will wear as it is used, reducing its size. If a disc becomes

too small to work with easily, replace it

Product Familiarisation

Unpacking Your Tool

• Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Fully familiarise yourself with all

its features and functions

• Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If

any parts are missing or damaged, have such parts replaced before

attempting to use this tool

Assembly

Attaching the guard

• The Guard (6) is an extremely important component part of the machine.

Attempting to use the machine without the guard, or with the guard

fitted incorrectly, is highly dangerous and could result in severe injury to

yourself or others around you

• The guard fits to the head of the machine, over the spindle assembly.

Ensure that the guard is pushed fully onto the machined metal casting,

and secured by tightening the clamp bolt

• The guard may be adjusted to the best position for different jobs. To

do this, loosen the clamp bolt, and adjust the guard position. Always

retighten the clamp bolt before use

Attaching the handle

• The grinder should never be used without the supplied Front Handle (2).

Attempting to use the grinder without the handle, or with the handle

incorrectly fitted, is highly dangerous and could result in severe injury to

yourself or others around you

• The handle can be fitted in three different positions. Threaded holes are

provided in the cast metal head of the grinder to accept the handle

• The handle screws clockwise into each hole. Always ensure that the

handle is tight, and secure before using the grinder. Always use the

handle position most suitable for the particular job that is to be done

Before Use

• Always check that all parts or attachments are secure, and that rotating

parts will not foul on guards or machine case

• Always hold the machine, using both hands, by the handles provided
• Be aware that the cast metal gear housing may get hot during use
• Hot air will be emitted from the ventilation holes
• Ensure that the ventilation holes are not obscured in any way
• Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment for the job that

you are to do. Use of this machine requires ear defenders, safety goggles,

gloves, a breathing mask, and if appropriate a hard hat
