cure the seal plate to the pedestal using two cap-
screws and nuts (1/2 UNC X 2 inches long, not
supplied).

Subassemble the rotating element into the retainer
and bellows, then slide this subassembly onto the
shaft sleeve (66) until the face of the rotating ele-
ment is just flush with the chamfered end of the
sleeve.

Slide the assembled seal and shaft sleeve onto the
shaft until the seal faces contact. Continue to push
the sleeve through the seal until the chamfered end
seats firmly against the shaft shoulder. Use caution
not to cut or roll the lip of the oil seal (43) when
installing the shaft sleeve.

Install the seal spring and spring centering washer.

Impeller Installation

Inspect the impeller and replace it if cracked or
badly worn.

The shaft and impeller threads must be
completely clean before reinstalling the im-
peller. Even the slightest amount of dirt on
the threads can cause the impeller to seize
to the shaft, making future removal difficult
or impossible without damage to the im-
peller or shaft.

Install the same thickness of impeller shims (67) as
previously removed and screw the impeller onto
the shaft until tight.

The clearance between the back of the impeller
and the seal plate should be between 0.020 and
0.040 inch (0,51 to 1,02 mm). Measure this clear-
ance and add or remove shims from the impeller
adjusting shim set until the correct clearance is
achieved.

Pump Casing and Wear Plate Installation

If the wear plate (44) was removed, install the new
wear plate in the pump casing and secure it with
the hardware (46 and 47).

Remove the two capscrews temporarily securing
the seal plate to the pedestal. Install a new set of
casing gaskets (9) and slide the pump casing over
the impeller and against the gaskets. The clear-
ance between the face of the impeller and the wear
plate should be between .010 and .020 inch (0,25
to 0,51 mm). Remove gaskets from the gasket set
until the correct clearance is achieved. Secure the
pump casing to the seal plate and pedestal with
the nuts (42).

Reinstall the bottle oiler and piping (15, 16, 17 and
18) in the seal plate. Lubricate the seal as indicated
in LUBRICATION at the end of this section.

Suction Check Valve Installation

Inspect the check valve components and replace
them as required. Subassemble the check valve
weights (58 and 60) and gasket (59) using the at-
taching hardware (61 and 62).

Install the check valve assembly in the valve seat
(53). Replace the seat gasket (52), and secure the
valve seat to the suction port using the round head
machine screws (63). Replace the suction flange
gasket (54), and secure the suction flange (50) to
the seat with the nuts (56).

Check the operation of the check valve to ensure
proper seating and free movement.

Final Pump Reassembly

Be sure all hardware and drain plugs are tight, and
that the pump is secure to the base and power
source.

Install the suction and discharge lines and open all
valves. Make certain that all piping connections are
tight, and that the weight of the lines is indepen-
dently supported and secure.

Before starting the pump, fill the pump casing with
clean liquid. Apply Never-Seez" or equivalent
compound to the fill plug (8). Reinstall and tighten
the fill plug.

Refer to OPERATION, Section C, before putting
the pump back into service.
