Figure E-3. Seal Assembly

This seal is not designed for operation at
temperatures above 110

_F (43_C). Do not

use at higher operating temperatures.

Install the slinger ring (38) on the impeller shaft.

Slide the seal plate over the impeller shaft. Align the
threaded seal lubricant hole with the pedestal
opening and temporarily secure it to the pedestal
using two capscrews and nuts (1/2 UNC x 1‐1/2
inch long, not supplied). Make sure the lubrication
hole in the seal plate aligns with the opening in the
pedestal.

Position the inboard rotating element on the shaft
with the chamfer facing the shaft shoulder. Slide
the element onto the shaft until fully seated against
the shoulder.

Subassemble the inboard stationary seat, packing
ring and spring washer, and press the subassem
bly into the lubricated seal liner. A push tube cut

from a length of plastic pipe would aid this installa
tion. The O.D. of the tube should be slightly smaller
than the I.D. of the seal liner.

Install the spacer sleeve and spring.

Subassemble the outboard stationary seat, pack
ing ring and spring washer. Press this subassem
bly into the seal liner.

Install the outboard rotating element with the
chamfered side facing the impeller end of the shaft.
Install the seal washer (65) with the chamfered side
facing the outboard rotating element.

Install the automatic grease cup and piping (14, 15
and 16) in the seal plate. After the impeller is
installed, lubricate the seal assembly as indicated
in LUBRICATION.

Impeller Installation and Adjustment

Inspect the impeller, and replace it if cracked or
badly worn. Install the same thickness of impeller
shims (66) as previously removed. Apply `Never‐
Seez' or equivalent to the shaft threads and screw
the impeller onto the shaft until tight.
