Optional Connections (Cont.)

These items, if desired, may be purchased from third-parties.

IEEE1394 Connection

1394 is a high speed serial bus like SCSI but has
simple connections and hot-plugging capabilities
like USB. Up to 63 devices such as hard disk drives,
scanners, removable drives, and digital cameras/
video cameras with an 1394 port can all be con-
nected (more 1394 devices can be connected us-
ing a 1394 hub). 1394 is also used in high-end digi-
tal equipment and should be marked “DV” for
Digital Video port.

Printer Connection

One or more USB printers can be simultaneously
used on any USB port or USB hub.

For system and hard disk drive security, see BIOS
setup “Security”. A third party lock such as the ones
by Kensington

®

can be used to secure your Note-

book PC physically to an unmovable object. The
cable wraps around an object and the “T” shaped
end inserts into the Kensington

®

lock port as shown

in this illustration and a key or combination dial is
used to secure the lock in place. For more infor-
mation, you can read advertisements in Notebook
(sometimes referred to as “Mobile” or “Portable”)
PC magazines.
