4. Operation
To carry out the experiments the following
additional equipment is needed:
2 Contact stands

1 Transformer with rectifier (230 V, 50/60 Hz)

1 Transformer with rectifier (115 V, 50/60 Hz)

1 E14 lamp socket

1 Filament lamp 12 V, 25 W, type E14 as sold for
domestic use
Experiment leads
•
Set up the circuit as shown in Fig. 1.
•
Connect each of the samples in turn in the
contact stands.
•
Complete the circuit by closing the switch and
observe which of the materials cause the lamp
to light and which do not.
•
Summarise the results in a table.
