A. U n b o l t th e g l o w plug r e l a y f r o m t h e r e a r of t h e i n t a k e
m a n i f o l d ( l e a v e wire l o o m a t t a c h e d to r e l a y . R e m o v e c abl e
c l a m p s h o l d i n g w ire l o o m to rear of e n g i n e . D i s c o n n e c t
relay ground wire from e n g i n e . If v e h i c l e has the E 4 0 D
t r a n s m i s s i o n (4 speed a u t o m a t i c / o v e r d r i v e ) s a v e o n e of the
c a b l e c l a m p s for s t e p 4 9 -
B. R e m o v e the two intake m a n i f o l d b olt s l o c a t e d b e t w e e n t h e
t h i r d and f our th fuel i n j e c t o r ( c o u n t i n g f r o m the f r o n t to
the r e a r ) on the r i g h t ( p a s s e n g e r ) side of the e n g i n e .

C. M o u n t the g l o w p l u g relay to the g l o w p l u g re lay b r a c k e t
( p r o v i d e d ) using two 1 / 4 " - 2 8 x 1" hex b o l t s , two 1 / 2 "
O . D . x 1 / 4 " I . D . w a s h e r s , and two 1 / 4 " - 2 8 nylock n u t s .
C l a m p the relay g r o u n d w i r e u n d e r one of the n u t s . See f i g .

D. Install the b r a c k e t and relay on the intake m a n i f o l d
u s i n g the intake bolts and w ashe rs r e m o v e d in s e c t i o n B.
R o u t e the wiring as shown in f i g - 1 0 . Plastic clips m a y be
r e m o v e d from wire l o o m j a c k e t as r e q u i r e d for rerouting
w i r i n g .
1 9 - R e m o v e the s c rews holding the v a c u u m hose j u n c t i o n b l o c k ,
loca ted on upper right portion of f i r e w a l l , and lift block u p ward
as far as p o s s i b l e . ( D o not d i s c o n n e c t any v a c u u m h o s e s . )
Temp ora r ily retain the v a c u u m block u p , out of the w a y , by tying
with h e a v y string or o t h e r m e a n s .
2 0 . R e m o v e exhaust head p i pes and exhaust s y s t e m , i n c l u d i n g
muffler and t a i l p i p e .
2 1 . R e m o v e the t r a n s m i s s i o n d i p s t i c k from the d i p s t i c k t u b e .
Then u n b o l t , the t r a n s m i s s i o n d i p s t i c k tube at the b e l l h o u s i n g
and r e m o v e the d i p s t i c k tube f r o m the t r a n s m i s s i o n . R e t a i n all
t h e s e c o m p o n e n t s for later i n s t a l l a t i o n . C o v e r the d i p s t i c k
tube o p e n i n g w i t h a clean r a g , p a p e r t o w e l or t a p e to p r e v e n t
c o n t a m i n a t i o n from e n t e r i n g the t r a n s m i s s i o n . R e i n s t a l l
bellhousing b o l t .
2 2 . R e m o v e 1 / 8 " NPT
pipe plug for oil f e e d c o n n e c t i o n , l o c a t e d on
l o w e r l e f t s i d e at rear of b l o c k , a b o v e and to t h e r e a r of
the oil f i l t e r .
