Attaching Starter Rope
• The rope guide and associated hardware are included in the hardware pack. Insert the open end of the rope
guide into the middle hole in the right upper handle. See Figure 9.
• Loosely attach the rope guide to the upper handle with a lock nut. Do not tighten at this time.
• Locate the starter rope on the recoil starter of the engine.
• With the spark plug wire disconnected and grounded safely, depress the blade control handle and pull the
rope out of engine.
• Slip the starter rope inside the rope guide as shown in the figure. Tighten the hex lock nut.

Attaching Chute Deflector
The chute deflector is shipped as loose part in the carton. The necessary hardware is in the hardware pack.
WARNING: Do not operate the mower without installing the chute deflector properly.
• Place the chute deflector on the deck aligning the holes on the chute deflector with the holes on the deck.
• Insert two carriage bolts from underside of the deck through the chute deflector.
• Secure each bolt with a washer and lock nut. See Figure 10.
