12. Troubleshooting guide

PROBLEM

Engine will not start.

Engine will not idle.

Engine will not accelerate.

Engine lacks power to stalls
when cutting.

Engine rope is difficult to pull
or engine locks.

Cutting head will not
advance line.

ACTION

Turn On/Off Stop Control to the
START position.
Fill fuel tank.
Press primer bulb fully and
slowly 5 – 7 time.
Use starting procedure
WITHOUT choke lever in the
START position.
Drain fuel tank/Add fresh fuel.
Replace or clean spark plug.
Replace or clean air filter.
Drain fuel tank/Add fresh fuel.
Drain fuel tank/Add fresh fuel.
Adjust carburetor.
Stop engine and clan cutting
head.
Clean or replace air filter.
Drain fuel tank/Add fresh fuel.
Stop engine and clean cutting
head.
Clean or replace cylinder head
muffler/spark arrestor (contact
authorized service dealer).
Check oil level before starting.
1.Remove spark plug.
2.Drain any oil from the spark

plug hole.

3.Pull the starter rope several

times to remove any excess
oil from the cylinder.

4.Clean, inspect and reinstall

spark plug, replace if
necessary.

5.Check oil level before starting.
Refill with new line.
Replace inner reel.
Clean inner reel and outer
spool.
Disassemble, remove the
welded section and rewind the
line.
Disassemble and rewind line.
Push the Bump Knob and pull
out line until 4 in (102 mm) of
line is outside of the cutting
head.

CAUSE

On/Off Stop Control is in the
STOP position.
Empty fuel tank.
Primer bulb wasn't pressed
enough.
Engine flooded.

Old Fuel.
Fouled spark plug.
Air Filter is Plugged.
Old Fuel.
Old Fuel.
Carburetor misadjusted.
Cutting head bound with grass.

Dirty air filter.
Old Fuel.
Cutting head bound with gass.

Combastion chamber, Muffler
or spark arrestor plugged.

Unit operated low or no oil.
Oil accumulated in combustion
chamber

Cutting head out of line.
Inner reel bound up.
Cutting head dirty.
Line welded.

Line twisted when refilled.
Not enough line is exposed.
