Chapter 1
Introduction
As broadband communication gets more and more popular, transferring video and
audio through networks has become a major issue. The ICA-101 family provides an
advanced Internet Camera solution, supporting wired or wireless Ethernet networking.
The ICA-101/ICA-101W can be placed wherever there is a wired/wireless LAN or an
available xDSL/Cable modem connection, and the ICA-101 family also supports DDNS.
Even when your gateway does not support DDNS, it can still co-operate with the ICA-
101 family and provide live images to Internet users.
The ICA-101 family uses advanced MPEG-4 video compression technology. An ad-
vanced microcomputer is integrated into this camera to digitize live video, and then
compress the video stream using MPEG-4. The high compression capabilities of
MPEG-4 reduce network bandwidth requirements to amazingly low levels. With their
Plug-N-Watch capability, a network administrator or system operator can seamlessly
complete network deployment in just minutes!
