1.5. Network Connection and Names
1.5.1. Minimum Network and Workstation Requirements
To successfully use the 5big Storage Server, your network must meet the following requirements:
Network Minimum Requirements
Server connection 100 Mbps Ethernet wired connection. LaCie highly recommends using
1 Gb/s for better performance.
Router/Firewall device A switch with wired Ethernet connectivity for the workstations to
communicate with the 5big Storage Server. LaCie highly recommends
using 1 Gb/s for better performance.
IP address The 5big Storage Server assumes that network devices receive their
IP addresses from a DHCP server. For a static IP configuration, see
1.14. Setting a Static IP Address.
Internet access The 5big Storage Server must have access to the Internet for critical
updates to Windows Storage Server 2008.

The latest versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7
