Technology

The McIntosh low frequency loudspeaker element fea-

tures the patented LD/HP motor structure. This design,

when compared to conventional loudspeaker elements,

reduces distortion significantly. It also increases power

handling and efficiency.

•

Shielded Magnetic Field

The HT-12 may be used in Home Theater installations

near a television receiver or monitor without causing the

television image to degrade. McIntosh has designed spe-

cial shielding around the magnetic structure of the HT-12

Loudspeaker Element to prevent interference.

•

High Power Handling

The Loudspeaker Element of the HT-12 is chosen for

use with powerful amplifiers up to 400 watts.

•

High Efficiency

The Loudspeaker Element used in the HT-12 Home

Theater Subwoofer has also been designed for high effi-

ciency. As a result, any McIntosh Power Amplifier, even

our smallest, will provide satisfying room filling sound.

•

Automatic Overload Protection

The HT-12 has built-in Loudspeaker Element Protection

in the form of an automatic resetting solid-state device.

Locating The Subwoofer

The optimal method for selecting speaker locations includes

the use of a real time spectrum analyzer (RTA) operated by

an experienced system installer. Refer to figure 1. An un-

compromising installation would take into consideration the

floor, wall and ceiling coverings, the type and placement of

furniture and can even include the architectural design of

the room and its construction materials. The frequencies

reproduced by the HT-12 Home Theater Subwoofer are

non-directional. The HT-12 does not have to be placed aim-

ing directly at the listener; however, it will sound best lo-

cated toward the front of the room and away from corners.

Placement in certain spots in rooms with multiple similar

dimensions can cause undesirable bass reinforcement

known as standing waves. Experimentation with the place-

ment of the HT-12, combined with careful listening, will re-

sult in the smoothest bass response.
