The SR-18 commemorates the thirtieth anniversary of the classic Marantz Model Eighteen as our flagship home theater receiver.
Packaged in an all metal alloy chassis featuring our exclusive “Reference Class” styling, the SR-18 continues the Marantz tradition of
engineering excellence and legendary sound quality. The THX Ultra certified SR-18 is a state-of-the-art component in every respect,
reflecting a proud heritage few peers can equal.
Total Surround Sound Compatibility
The Marantz SR-18 provides surround sound decoding for every current
multi-channel surround sound format, including Dolby ® Digital, Dolby ®
Pro Logic and DTS ® . Complementing its total surround sound flexibility,
the SR-18 features THX ® 5.1 post-processing, for the most accurate
possible reproduction of movie soundtracks in the home. The SR-18
is also ready for any future surround sound format, thanks to its
six-channel direct inputs.
Superb Audio Quality
The SR-18 incorporates the most advanced Digital Signal Processing
circuitry design, with 96kHz/24-bit decoding for the highest-possible
fidelity and bandwidth, and high-resolution playback of 96/24 DVD
audio discs. The SR-18’s DSP circuitry operates entirely in the
digital domain for maximum separation, clarity and dynamic range.
Massive Power Output
The SR-18 delivers an astonishing 140 watts RMS of high-current
amplification at 8 ohms, into each of the five main channels, for clear and
powerful reproduction of the most demanding action movie soundtracks
and full-range discrete 5.1-channel music discs.
Unparalleled Features and Flexibility
The Marantz SR-18 offers the most comprehensive array of features ever
in a Marantz home theater receiver. The SR-18’s two sets of component
video inputs and a component video output, allow easy switching
between two component video sources such as a DVD player or DTV
set-top decoder. The SR-18 also incorporates an unusually extensive
array of digital and analog inputs and outputs with low noise switching
facilities to preserve sonic purity. Additionally, a wealth of performance
and convenience features including multi-room/multi-source capability
for both audio and video, easy to use on-screen menus and an advanced
learning remote control are provided.
Ergonomic Front Panel Design and Comprehensive Performance Features
Although it is the most advanced home theater receiver available today, the SR-18’s operation is simple and intuitive. Its front panel control layout
provides ready access to all functions, and includes useful front panel A/V inputs making it easy to connect an additional audio/video playback
device, including those with S-video. A hinged panel covers the front panel inputs and most controls when they’re not in use for a clean, uncluttered
appearance. In addition, the Marantz SR-18 provides Dolby Digital Night Mode for quieter evening listening, a Source Direct switch to bypass the
tone controls for purest audio quality, heavy-duty
banana plug compatible speaker terminals and
more—much more. The elegant Marantz SR-18
is available in black or in limited quantities of
traditional Marantz Champagne Gold.
Fluorescent Front Panel Display Indicates System Status at a Glance
The Marantz SR-18 features a large, easy to read Fluorescent Panel Display
which indicates key functions and settings in a logical and straightforward
manner, providing “at a glance” indications of the SR-18’s operating status
at all times.

Gyro Touch Tuning
The SR-18’s Gyro Touch Tuning features a horizontally mounted, large-diameter tuning
wheel that is weighted and balanced for a silky-smooth “feel” and unmatched tuning
precision. However, the SR-18’s Gyro Touch Tuning offers an important improvement
over the classic Marantz Gyro Touch tuners and receivers of old—it operates
electronically in conjunction with a digital tuner for spot-on accuracy.
HDAM High Definition Amplifier Modules
The SR-18 employs Marantz’s High Definition
Amplifier Module (HDAM) discrete preamp
output stages. This superior, copper shielded
circuitry is also utilized in the prestigious Reference
Series Integrate Amplifier, CD Player and Tuner.
HDAM replaces the low-cost op-amps normally
used in audio products and provides extremely
fast slew rate, wide bandwidth, low noise and exceptional dynamic range. The result is a seamless
transparency audiophiles have come to love in Marantz products.
Power Section
The SR-18’s THX Ultra certified power section delivers enormous amplifier power–140 watts
RMS at 8 ohms into each of the five main channels with substantial reserve power headroom
to handle even the most draining peak power demands. The power section features an
advanced, high-current toroidal transformer with low-impedance drive capability, premium
high-storage power supply capacitors, voltage-plus-current feedback technology and fully
discrete output stages housed in die cast aluminum heat sinks. It all adds up to 700 watts of
pure thundering power for clean, effortless reproduction of movie soundtracks and music.
