3.5 changing the magazine (Rifle empty)

note: The bolt will be held partially open by the magazine follower when all ammunition
in the magazine has been expended and the rifle is empty (visually check the chamber
to verify).

1. ensure the safety lever is in the “S” (Safe) position;
2. lock the bolt open by pulling charging handle fully rearward and depressing bolt stop

lever (rear button);

3. remove the empty magazine by depressing the magazine catch;
4. insert a loaded magazine and check that it is properly seated;

5a. Pull the charging handle fully to the rear and release; or
5b. depress bolt stop lever (toward button) to release bolt;
6. Move the safety lever to the “f” (fire) position and continue shooting.
