Playing back with multi-channel surround
The Auto Format Direct (A.F.D.) mode allows you to listen to higher fidelity sound and select the
decoding mode for listening to a 2 channel stereo sound as multi-channel sound.
Press A.F.D. repeatedly to select the A.F.D. mode you want.
Notes
• This function does not work when the multi-
channel input is selected.
• Even if you set the speaker pattern so that there are
both surround back speakers and front high
speakers, sound cannot be output from each pair of
speakers simultaneously.
When you select “PLIIz Height,” or the digital
input signal contains signals for the front high
channels, sound is output from the front high
speakers. In other cases, sound is output from the
surround back speakers.
If you always want to output sound from the front
high speakers, set the speaker pattern so that there
are no surround back speakers (page 45).
• “Multi Stereo” does not work when multi-channel
audio signals are being received.
• If you set the speaker pattern so that there are both
surround back speakers and front high speakers,
and then you select “Multi Stereo,” if 2 channel
signals are input, sound is output from each pair of
speakers simultaneously. However, sound cannot
be output from the PRE OUT FRONT HIGH L and
R jacks.
Tip
We usually recommend “A.F.D. Auto.”
