13602-13603 FIN AND PLATE
TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
COOLER MOUNTING
The fin and plate transmission cooler is designed to
mount with nylon rods flush against the radiator or
AC condenser core. Cooler orientation is not critical,
it can be mounted ports up, down, left or right. Cooler
core will flow in either direction, there is no specified
inlet or outlet port.
Note possible mounting positions in drawing.
HOSE CONNECTION
1. Find transmission oil lines. The two lines run
from the transmission to the radiator, usually to
the bottom radiator tank or on a cross-flow
radiator the passenger side tank.
2. We recommend using the new cooler in series
with the factory radiator cooler. To do this you
need to determine the return line to the
transmission. Warm up vehicle and feel trans
lines, the colder of the two lines will be the
return.
3. Remove the return line from radiator. Thread
the included Insta-dapt adapter in radiator.
Connect first hose from cooler to Insta-dapt
adapter. Connect second hose to return
transmission line.
Note: Some 1996 and later vehicles with
3/8” lines cannot use the Insta-dapt adapter.
You can cut and flare the transmission line
or purchase the correct radiator adapter
fittings for your vehicle from a Deale dealer.
See the back of the box or www.derale.com
for the correct kit for your vehicle.
When a suitable mounting location has
been chosen.
1. Peel adhesive backing off the foam sponge
rubber pads. Apply one pad to the back of
each corner of the cooler. The foam pad
insulates the cooler from the radiator/AC
condenser.
2. Insert nylon rods into each corner of the
cooler. Push each rod through the cooler
and radiator/AC condenser so flat surface
of the rod is against the cooler.
3. Place the self-locking button on the
mounting rod and push the button up
against the back of radiator/AC condenser
until the foam pads are slightly
compressed. Cut off excess mounting rod.
Swedged Hoses
1. This cooler kit comes with –6AN Swedged
hose ends. Thread hose ends to both ports on
cooler core forming a loop. Always use two
wrenches to tighten, one on the cooler core
inlet and one on hose end. Failure to do so
could lead to damage to cooler core.
2. Measure hose length for connection to radiator
adapter and transmission line. Cut hose to
proper length.
Note: Ensure that all hose bends have a
radius of more than 5 inches or the size of a
small coffee can. To tight radius hose
bends can damage the hose and cause
leaks.
