Symptom

Possible Cause

Resolution

Valve won’t rotate

1) Packing is too tight.

1) Loosen packing nuts and set the

torque according to its torque table.

2) Actuator has failed.

2) Repair or replace.

3) Valve not cleaned before assembling

and presence of solid particles on
bushing/stem or bottom plate area.

3) Disassemble the valve, flush and clean.

Check if any valve part is damaged
and replace as required. Reassemble
the valve

4) Stem keys lost or not engaged with

actuator.

4) Insure proper engagement between

valve and actuator.

Stem packing leaking

1) Packing nuts too loose.

1) Tighten packing nuts according to

packing torque table.

2) Packing damaged.

2) Replace the packing.

Bottom plate/plug leaking

1) Bottom flange bolting/plug loose.

1) Tighten flange bolting/plug according

to their torque table.

2) Gasket damaged.

2) Replace the gasket.

Valve leaking

1) Debris trapped between disc seal ring

and seat.

1) Cycle and flush (with the valve open)

to remove debris.

2) Seat or Disc seal ring gasket leaking.

2) Check the cap screws torque. If

necessary, tighten according to the
appropriate torque. If leak continues,
replace gaskets.

3) Actuator mechanical stops set

improperly.

3) Reset travel stops according to

section 6.

4) Disc seal ring or seat damaged.

4) Replace.

5) Actuator torque set improperly.

5) Adjust torque output according to

actuator manufacturer instructions.

Jerky operation

1) Packing is too tight.

1) Loosen packing nuts, cycle the valve

and tighten the nuts according to
packing torque table.

2) Inadequate air supply to pneumatic

actuator.

2) Increase actuator size, air supply,

and/or volume.

3) Actuator/stem adapter misaligned.

3) Remove the actuator mounting and

realign or replace.
