Viewing Closed Captions
Your TV displays the closed captions that are broadcast with some
television shows. These captions are usually subtitles for the hearing
impaired or language translations. All VCRs record the closed caption
signal and most pre-recorded commercial video tapes provide closed
captions. Check for the closed caption symbol in your television
schedule and on the tape’s packaging:

Press MENU repeatedly until you see the Setup menu. Press CH
▼
to select “Caption.”

Press VOL+ to open the Closed Caption menu.

Press VOL + to turn closed captioning on.
✓ Misspellings and odd characters can occur in captioning. Also, there may be a
captioning delay after changing channels. Neither situation is a TV malfunction.

Press CH
▼ to highlight “Mode.” Press – VOL or VOL + to choose
“Capt.” (captions) or “Text.” In caption mode, captions appear and
cover a small portion of the picture. In text mode, information unre-
lated to the program, such as news reports, are displayed and
often cover a large portion of the screen.

If you wish, use CH
▲, CH ▼, or VOL + to change the captioning
channel or field. Then, press DISPLAY to return to normal viewing.
✓ Different channels and fields display different information, such as additional
languages or supplemental information.
